The year was 1935, Oscar Johnson and Eddie and Roy
Shipstad were readying the debut of their ice-skating road show, Sonja
Henie was putting the finishing touches on her Madison Square Garden
ice show, indoor ice rinks and dazzling ice carnivals had spread
across the country.
In San Francisco, home of Shipstad and Johnson,
Louis Harlick, a Custom Footwear Maker (English Riding Boots, Ballet
Shoes, Orthopedic Shoes) from Russia, was making his first pair of
Custom Skating Boots. Harlick skating boots began.
U.S. Figure
Skating is the official governing body for the sport of figure
skating in the United States, recognized as such by both the United
States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Skating Union (ISU).
As the governing body, U.S. Figure Skating's mission is to provide
programs to encourage participation and achievement in the sport of
figure skating. Among other things, U.S. Figure Skating's status as
governing body gives it the authority to regulate and govern the sport
in the United States, create rules for the holding of tests,
competitions and other activities, and to organize and sponsor
competitions for the purpose of stimulating interest in the sport.
The
U.S. Olympic Committee offers programs Project GOLD, Champions in
Life, F.L.A.M.E. and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, and partners in
the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance (CTSA) with the goals of
building public understanding and awareness of the Olympic movement in
the U.S. and stronger relationships with external organizations and
individuals, while promoting diversity in sports and reaching out to
under-represented members of the Olympic family.

Our 165,000 square-foot, world-class facility consists of two indoor, NHL-sized skating rinks, as well as one outdoor rink that hosts both roller and deck hockey leagues throughout the summer. Northwell Health Ice Center offers a wide variety of clinics, programs and leagues for both male and female hockey players, as well as figure skaters of all ages and skill levels. Throughout the year, Northwell hosts a variety of youth and adult hockey tournaments, figure skating competitions, curling events, speedskating competitions and even non-skating entertainment events. The facility has regularly scheduled weekly public skating sessions and offers a full line of rental skates for use and enjoyment.
